EU REPRESENTATIVES

2016-2018 Building strong relationships with stakeholder groups, relevant institutions and donors. Ms. Lubna Mahadeen was a key person supporting the launching of the WFD 6.5 million Euro component under the European Union (EU) funded Programme “Support to Jordanian Democratic Institutions and Development”, EU-JDID that totals for 12.5 million Euro. The project aims to support democracy and provide a comprehensive Parliamentary support to the House of Representatives (HoR) in Jordan. Strengthen the functioning of the House of Representatives (HoR) in exercising its core parliamentary functions in a professional, accountable and transparent manner.

The EU funded project provides support to three components; the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, the Independent Electoral Commission and the Jordanian Parliament.

Jordanian Parliament, House of Representatives (HoR)- Amman, Jordan

2016-2018 serving as a Country Representative (CR) for Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and the Senior responsible Officer (SRO) leading the implementation of programs, strategy, business development and activities.

Collaborated with key stakeholders in Parliaments, political parties, high-level personnel from the British embassy and EU delegation in Jordan, NGOs, political parties, local partners, academics, experts, CSOs and other leading democratic institutions in the country to effectively finance and implement initiatives and programmes with social and political impact.Leading the implementation of programs, strategy, business development and activities while collaborating with colleagues in the region Contributed to advancing discussions regarding supporting a culture of democracy, accountability and the respect for the rule of Law.

Worked with the Jordanian Parliament on strengthening the legislative and oversight role of its members and departments as well as enhancing the effectiveness of the Directorate of Research in supporting members of parliament (MPs) in the introduction of legislations and laws.

Supporting Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) & Women Regional Programme Activities

2016-2018 serving as a Country Representative (CR) for Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and the Senior responsible Officer (SRO) leading the implementation of programs, strategy, business development and activities.

Ms. Mahadeen has been involved in different initiatives supporting (WFD) Women regional programme activities in Jordan such as the Jordanian Women’s Caucus and the Coalition of Women Parliamentarians’ from Arab Countries to Combat Violence Against Women (VAWG). This has been instrumental in supporting the continuity of women’s parliamentary activities and effective dialogue between concerned parties and support of vision and activities for effective partnership and participation.

Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and MCA Jordan

2014- 2016 Ms. Mahadeen has worked as a Consultant/ Deputy to the Program Manager of the Consultancy Firm, in providing Program Management Services and overseeing the implementation of a $275 million Infrastructure Program. The Jordan Compact was funded by a grant offered to the Ministry of Water for the Zarqa Governorate from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a US federal funding agency, whose mission is to reduce poverty by supporting economic growth. Oversaw staffing of 90-member team working in eleven of the project sites while continuous collaboration with both the local and international team members.

Chair of the Seattle Human Rights Commission (SHRC)

2006-2010, A Mayoral appointee in Ms. Mahadeen was the first Arabic and Muslim woman serving as a Chair of the Seattle Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in the City of Seattle, Washington advocating for justice and equal opportunity. Also, appointed to serve as Chairman of the Appeals Committee of the Commission in Seattle, to defend justice and equal opportunities for all. Worked with State departments, City officials, law enforcement, City businesses, community partners and advocates.

Provided strong leadership working with public policy and city programs that promoted equality and justice in the City of Seattle. Administered and managed the Seattle Human Rights Commission’s multidisciplinary work groups and seven task forces and teams that consisted of: Homelessness, Disability, Public Safety, Education, Government and Legislative Affairs, Public Relation and the Appeal Committee”.

She represented the Seattle Human Rights Commission and spoke before the City Council and City officials in public hearings on many occasions to convey the concerns of our communities and especially the less fortunate individuals and marginalized groups.

The Center For Women & Democracy (CWD) 

In 2009, Ms Mahadeen was a board member at the center. She worked with the inaugural Leadership Institute for young women in Seattle and was part of designing, planning and hosting the inaugural Leadership Institute for young women who are the future leaders. The program was successful in promoting women’s full representation, participation and leadership while respecting the political, economic and social diversity of cultures worldwide. In 2009, Ms Mahadeen was selected to participate as a delegate in the Center’s 2009 citizen international delegation to Morocco, led by Senator Lisa Brown, the Majority leader in the Washington State Senate. She worked with delegates and women from the US and Morocco to establish connections and exchange ideas through forums, site visits, workshops and briefings from Moroccan parliamentary, business and Community Leaders .
